internet of things

The internet of things (IoT) is the concept of many ordinary devices, appliances and things gaining internet connectivity, and being able to exchange information. Proponents imagine a future where everything is connected – for example, where the rain sensors in people’s cars could feed into a hyper-local weather service, notifying nearby residents to bring in the washing. Opponents fear needless technology, creeping surveillance, and a loss of control over their own data.
